Tried that. They improve the ride somewhat, but not enough. As well, they didn't fit properly so I had to remove them. You can't really compensate for the big loss of wheel diameter (compared to big bikes) by adding a half an inch of width to a tire. Besides, I didn't mean this post as a discussion of what helps reduce the rattling of bones, but rather as a note that there is some irony in using these bikes, as noted in the OP.
