Yep it was an at home rattle can job. The colour is Rover British racing green. I used chemical paint stripper (Nitromoors if your in the UK/Ireland). As with painting anything preparation is the key. After the chemical paint stripper did its job I used 600 grit sandpaper to prep the frame and remove any remaining paint. A good wipe down with white spirits to neutralise the paint stripper before I started painting.
There was then 3 coats of primer sanded down with 1500 grit in between each coat.
Between each coat it was wiped down with alcohol to remove grease/dust on the frame.
Then there was 2 coats of colour with the same treatment of 1500 grit paper and alcohol.
Finally there was 2 coats of laquer to give the gloss finish. I'm quite happy with the finish. Total time of painting? About a week. I left plenty of time to dry between the coats.
The reason i painted it in the first place? The previous owner had a "quick and dirty" black respray which was chipping in places due to the lack of lacquer. It just didn't look professional. It didn't look too bad in photos, up close you could see the flaws.

After the strip was a lot of polishing of shiney things. Brasso and lots of elbow grease were used here. Dia compe sidepulls, cranks, Phillipe Dropbar, front chainring, shifters, front and rear derailleurs and wheels got this treatment.
Components replaced?
Brake cables (inner and outer)
Wheels (old no name 27" replaced for panaracer paselas TG)
New SRAM chain replaced for the old one which was splitting links
I'm waiting on a new 6 speed Shimano Freewheel in the post
After that it was a general lube and replacement of bearings in the bottom bracket, headset and hubs.
I think thats it. I've probably forgotten something

Yep thats correct, pre early 83 models of the 610 were fitted with sidepulls. I'm intrigued by the double eyelet on the front fork, one for a pannier and the bottom for mudguards/fenders? I'm not too sure.
Well yep as soon as the postman comes with my new freewheel and spoke tool. I've lost the spoke tool in the midsts of the shed and the freewheel keeps slipping under load. I should have ordered it along with the chain. The rear wheel is out of true aswell and I cant the the break alignment right without the wheel being true so thats on the "to do" list
