True. And I have wondered if this wasn't a matter of the LBS being ticked off at Specialized and wanting to promote Trek (which they sell a LOT more of). Either way, I will drive an extra 25 miles next time, to get to a store I know will go to bat for me. Of course, that also means I'll end up buying custom or Italian.
Of course, unlike with other industries, bike warranties, in general, do not cover labor. In my case, labor costs were easily going to be a multiple of the price of the parts.
