I have a pair of Shimano MO21s. They are essentially mountain bike shoes, but I wear them on my road bike, because I've had a couple accidents with the regular road shoes slipping off the pedal.

The MO21s are nice, there are several brands of shoes that have the cleat insert available. I like them, just because the rubber underneath helps to keep the feet from slipping.

One piece of advice, since these type of shoes are a soft soled type shoe, you may experience foot pain when riding longer distances. I took care of that problem by getting a sheet of steel and using the shoe inserts as a guide, cut a pair of steel inserts for the inside of the shoe.

Check out PerformanceBike.com for the types of shoes that they have. Look under the Mountain bike section.
