The downside to eccentric BBs is that a gear change changes the relation of saddle and bb. Adjusting the saddle to the new bb location then changes the saddle/cockpit relation. I'm not that picky but i know people that dial things in to the mm and any change is a big deal for them.
Agreed, but with track ends you have to adjust your brakes and with canti's that can be a pain too. I have an eccentric on my Sycip and I don't notice too much of a saddle change when I change gearing but maybe I'm not that picky. The perfect solution is to angle the track end like horiz dropouts.
