Broadway is a cyclists' no-go. Generally the best way to go more than 20-25 blocks in any direction is just to use one of the wider peripheral avenues (10th ave, 1st ave) or the east river/hudson river pathways. Really, any of the central avenues like 5th or 7th are unpleasant to ride down at any time of the day.
