I'm a tandem newbie myself. Just picked a used Trek T100 up on Friday. There is such a difference in our cycling ability right now. I'm doing some respectable mileage and she can get around the neighborhood a couple of times. Hopefully this is what will get my wife out from in front of the tv and out riding with me instead. It's a great move, but heed the good advice hereabouts. Even though your wife can work at here own rate, she's still got to sit on the seat probably for longer than she's accustomed and there is a lot of trust involved. Build up gradually and plan stops that she will appreciate (e.g., Starbucks). Do whatever you can to make here comfortable on the bike. Happy tandeming.
