Slapping a rigid fork on my fuel?

So I'm moving back to TX and plan to mostly commuting. Since my old fork was stolen I am looking for a cheap replacement. Are 80mm suspension corrected rigid forks OK to put on a supposed-to-be 100mm bike? I thought I read years back there's a plus/minus 20mm rule on this scenario.

Just want to double check and hear recommendations of rigid forks (80-130$)
