Basically, it means that over the course of 15 miles of riding, you will climb a total of 800'. It doesn't mean that you'll finish the ride 800' higher than where you started. You could, for example, climb 800' and descend 1500' over the course of the ride. You'll still have an elevation gain of 800'.

In other words, unless you have a pool-table flat ride with one mother of a 800' hill, it's not a bad ride.
