Tire Mounting

I was wondering if it's possibly to wear tires out more quickly by taking them on and off rims? I noticed that with my tires when I use the lever to mount the last section of tire, there's a bit of rubber that get rubbed off. I'm I not correctly mounting the tires or it this normal? My technique for mounting is to get the tire starting on the rim and then place the lever inside the rim, holding it like I'm stabbing the rim, and pull it toward me so it forces the tire on to the rim. it's takes a bit of strength for the last bit of tire. Is it recommended to try and pry the tire back on? I'm using Park Tool plastic levers, but for a while I was using a Crank Bros. Quick lever and I still take tires on and off as if I were using the Crank Bros. lever.

Thanks!
