I found a tick under a sock after a ride a few days ago but not attached. I bought a spray bottle of tick repellent, Permethrin, at REI yesterday. At check out I found I still had a bit of money left over from the co-op dividend and and there was a discount coupon available on the repellent.
By the way, you are allowed to wear black socks with baggy shorts.
