Spokes, Scotland’s leading cycle campaign group which covers Edinburgh and the wider Lothian area, has announced that it is to stop publicising events that require participants to wear a helmet in the face of what it describes as
“the creeping growth of semi-compulsion.” The group’s stance regarding making helmets mandatory is in line with that of the
Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RosPA), which says it is impractical to make use of helmets compulsory.
