The only time I use lap/reset is if I forgot to press start/stop at the end of a ride and, after the unit automatically shuts down, when I turn it on it states 'Press reset to save your activity.' Otherwise I usually just press start/stop at the beginning and end of a ride. The unit states 'timer stopped' when pressing start/stop at the end of a ride.
