Both work well. The newer Accushift is indexed, the older barcons are ratcheting friction, so very different as far as shifting is concerned. I rode my barcon equipped '71 Schwinn Paramount 93 miles yesterday and did not have a single shifting issue. In my opinion, you can't go wrong. I might even have a spare pair to share.
