SlimRider: As promised, I raise the zombie thread.

I ride a single speed road bike (Windsor TimeLine), but I'm curious about trying crit racing. If (big "if") I buy a new bike to scratch that itch with, I'd like to do it on a Schwinn.

I've read several reviews of the Fastback Comp, none of which has anything but praise for the bike. Given the spec, that doesn't surprise me. It may be more bike than I'm worthy of right now, but it's the one I'm leaning toward:

Saying this, I'm also interested in IGH road bikes, stuff in the manner of the old Raleigh Clubman. That means something like this

or this

The Slicker, with bar-end shifting and a 1x9 drivetrain, approximates all three. So here's the hypothetical: Given a flat course, just how often does a rider shift? Do most riders stay on the big ring? If so, why not a 1x9?

Logic says buy used; convention says to buy a different brand, new or used, from any of the bikes mentioned above. If you throw logic and convention out the window, which of these would you choose?
