Shimano Ultegra ST-6600G brake/gear shifter

The throw on the brake shifter is too long for my hands. There is at least a 1/2" inch of pull before the break even begins to engage. I read that the 6700 has a 10 mm insert to shorten the throw, but I suspect I would need to custom fit something my self to insert into the shifter space to bring the lever closer to my small hand.

May sound like it is not worth the effort, but especially my right hand has a hard time engaging the the break lever because of the long through.

Any ideas? I am headed later to Home Depot, and could try to find some rubber gasket i could cut or shape or whatever you can think of.
