The do-all-bike doesn't exist because there's always one bike that does one thing better. I have a cross-check and love it, but I have three other single purpose bikes that I ride more. I do use the cross-check for light-and-fast touring. You can't beat the cross-check for it's strength and flexibility, the downside is weight. If touring and commuting are your emphasis then go cross-check. If racing and CX are your main focus then get the Uncle John.
