I went into the LBS this morning and asked a mechanic if he could talk to me about disc brake squeal. His reply: "BB7s?" So, I guess it happens. He gave me some general suggestions about sanding the rotors a bit when installing new pads and said that in some conditions squeal is just unavoidable. I ended up getting organic pads and HS1 rotors. FWIW, he said the pads would make more difference than the rotors.
IMO, the quality of these brakes is worth putting up with some noise. Besides, sometimes it's good to have everyone in the neighborhood know where you are when you're braking hard. With BB7's you don't need an AirZound.
