I should bump this thread to put right the concerns I'd raised above about Xootr customer service. Perhaps my emails got sent to their Trash folder or something, but when I did call them, they were very nice, apologetic for the lack of email response, and offered to replace the lost hook at no charge, and in fact, quickly shipped me out two of them, which was great!
I remedied the situation that allowed the hook to get lost in the first place by using a small safety pin to narrow the loop that allowed the hook to rotate out. That solution has been working just dandy.
