Anytime I'm making cleat adjustments, I bring a wrench on my rides so I can adjust mid-ride if I need to.
I do too (I always have a wrench that'll tighten cleats) but its even better to adjust them then try the position on the trainer. Just make sure to tighten the cleats enough so they don't move when you unclip.
