Supposedly with the move to the US, Velocity has made some updates with an improved rim bed, and (hopefully it's true) addressed the issue of inconsistent ERD dimensions. Which probably explains why GP has problems on the old rims and Beanz doesn't. Although I too have noticed the first time I mounted a GP4000s to an A23 rim, it was by no means easy. Once the tire was ridden in and taken on and off a couple time, it has stretched enough, though it still needs a bit of effort. FWIW, I use Velocity's Veloplugs instead of rim tape, so I have a little wiggle room.
Makes sense but I do have older Deep Vs on our bikes made in Australia. I don't remember having any issues but I'll take notes next time I swap tires for a new one.
