There might easily be something to that whole collectible thing, but I seriously doubt that $5k is a reasonable expectation. This thread caught my eye, because I have a '97 Silk "Road" 500, 58cm in Speed Yellow, that came with that RSX group, I think. I almost posted a lot of useless stuff, but notice, mine is a Silk Road, not Silk Path. Silk Roads can only fit a 700c x 28c tire, but the Silk Paths can take big ole fat tires.
