What about comfort/ suspension?
Bikes with suspension is often heavy, more maintenance and cost. In my opinion nothing you need if you are not counting on seriousely bad roads.
Alu is said to be stiffer to ride, so you may want cushy tyres and maybe also sprung saddle if you buy alu.
Steel (at least better quality bikes) is said to be more "cushy" in the feel, you may want this if you like the narrow hard tyres like some do.

Do you want the seatpost with a pump innside it? May be smart on a trip like that. Steel is easyer to repair (welding) if needed. Does colour matter?
