I would agree this bike isn't well suited to touring. It is a pretty basic entry level sports model. You want something at least a little higher in quality with more better gearing. Also the bike seems to be overpriced by about $100. Aslo if your looking for a bike on a budget for light touring you may want to consider a nicer a hard framed Moutain bike from the late 80's early 90's they are fairly inexpensive and can be set to make fairly nice touring bikes.
