My thinking is that if your vintage ride has a pump peg on the back of the head tube, then go for the HpX. Use the pump peg for it's intended purpose. The parallel to the top tube storage is sweet.
On the other hand if the ride is sans pump peg then you may have to consider a parallel to seat tube mount, sacrificing a water bottle mount, which would give me pause.
