It's generally not recommended to leave these lights running without airflow. When I've tested them, after about 20 minutes with zero airflow they're getting uncomfortably hot. With airflow (either a fan or riding) they're just nicely warm after any length of time (usually 45 minutes for me). Maybe 10 degrees or so above body temp.
That's pretty much my experience as well.

When my wife first gave it to me, after charging up the battery, I turned it on and let it sit on a table top to see how long the battery would last. Never found out. Had to turn it off. After about an hour, I touched the casing of the light and almost burnt my fingertips. That sucker was extremely hot.

However, when I'm out riding, with air flowing all around it, it stays pretty cool to the touch. It's just gets mildly warm; nowhere near as hot as it got indoors.
