That happened to me too, 5 years ago when I first started. Right knee, not ankle, and being car-free and stubborn I used the left leg only for power, for several months. My left is still stronger and bulkier which is kind of weird sometimes ... and tempts me to replicate it with the right leg. Without the injury of course.
