Hi, made it out of LA traffic and up to Lone Pine. Forgot how nice it is in the Eastern Sierras. Hoping that a 39 X 29 will be enough for tomorrow's first stage to Horseshoe Meadows climb. I've never used a gear that low in any race and I don't plan on using it unless I totally blow up. Stage 2 is up Whitney Portal Road and when I last raced up that road in the 1980s I was at least 20 lbs lighter and used a 42 X 23. Hoping the 39 X 29 is good for that too.
