You say It was entirerly your fault, not the bike shops fault.They failed to properly adjust the rear derailler perimeter limits, so i say it's their fault. Now your girl friend on the other hand, she didn't help the situation either, but I would explain to the LBS that a brand new bike shouldn't have a chain that cuts a spoke and make them replace it.The bike shop failed to adjust the limit screws on the rear derailler. Stop taking the blame.
