I didn't hear about it, but always thought going down on the inside was lame, and not too safe. I haven't done it, and was not planning on it. Hope this doesn't blow it for us who occasionally go up it.

I think the problem with this stretch is the large number of people walking up it, especially on weekends. It averages 8% grade, or thereabouts, with lots of switchbacks, and peds all over the road. It is open to cars, but those are no a problem due to the large number of people who prefer to park below and walk up.
