I think both were made in Japan, but the 710 was using a better grade of frame material and lighter then the 914 despite the fact that normally the higher the number the better the frame, but Miyata changed that when steel was falling out of favor and gave the 914 that number to make people think it was a higher end bike, component wise that was true, but not frame wise. Which is why I said take the Cyclone group off the 914 and put it on the 710. The Cyclone group alone is worth more than the 914 frame and fork.
