RB, a DIY fashioned sompression plug seems the easiest approach, essentially copying the Velox mechanism. Sourced a rubber bushing just shy of the I.D. of the bars. Run a bolt (a slotted brass one, perhaps?) through the brass plug and the bushing. Nut and washer on the bushing end. As you tighten the bolt, the bushing squishes out radially.
