You never know - your new intended cassette may well work with the new cassette. I would try it and see. Even if it initially seems to work, going to a higher number of gears in the cassette may exceed the accuracy of the mechanism of a lower geared cassette. In other words, more gears in the cassette requires a more accurate movement of the guide wheels. I mention all this because my 8 speed cassette occasionally seems to lose it's place. I'm considering going to a 9 speed derailleur and chain.
