My first ever descent was on my first real group ride. I didn't even know cyclists climbed hills and we climbed this 2000+ ft winding hill. I had no idea what to expect in the descent. I had no clue how much to slow down and I rode off the side and crashed 2/3 of the way down. I think that REALLY helped get me decent at descending right from the start. I've absolute LOVED fast technical descents ever since. Until I started racing, it was the primary reason to climb haha
Therein lies the reason you hang out in the 33.
Most ppl would have gone back to the softball field, or tennis court.
