I really tried to get into road riding, but never felt comfortable depending on other road users not to do something stupid. For me I feel more anxious when riding in traffic which takes away from the enjoyment. When riding off road I can choose to ride easy trails or more difficult, I feel more in control, which reduces anxious feelings and adds to my enjoyment. I still ride road on occasion, but I wouldn't want to only ride road.
