Also, try this - might help: do a couple of pushups and try to focus on where, on your hands, you feel the weight and pressure. THAT basically tells you where you need to "put the weight" of the hands-handlebar interface. If you put the weight on the centerline of your palm, you're likely to pressure that 'carpal tunnel nerve bundle' and get numbness. This fixed my numbness problem. Gloves were not a factor.

P.S. My latest pair of fair-weather gloves came from Chiba on a buddy's recommendation. Like 'em a lot, Gel Comfort +. I think I ordered them through Chain Reaction.
