I've done it in early July. The one thing I would warn you about is take plenty of water. It is pretty easy to run out of water with no place to fill up. If you doing the entire thing, you need to know that no water is available (on the trail) between Harrison and Kellogg.
Plenty of side towns along the way to get water. However you must be willing to step off the black ribbon
