Thanks, that was my concern. I'm replacing a Shimano 12-27 cassette with a SRAM 12-32, and looking at the cassette in its box there was definitely no lockring on top of the small cog. I just took it out of the box and found it clipped onto the bottom of the stack. So all's well.
Sorry for getting ahead of myself, but my new wheels are arriving tomorrow and I was hoping to not have a setback in putting things together!
