I have a musician friend. At weddings he had good stuff for the first hour. After that he assumed everyone was soused. After two or three hours he made a game about how much suck he could put out before someone would notice. He said that's when he'd get the nicest comments.
It never fails to astonish me how bad I can screw up with nobody in the audience even seeming to notice.
When I do screw up in front of a room on a song, I usually never make the same mistake again. I'm too traumatized by the first screw up, I practice that part extra hard and I remember where it all went south and don't do it again.
