Unfortunatley, I have absolutely no idea about the value and quality of vintage bikes..........

Being in this position as an uneducated buyer can be very dangerous. Of course most sellers will say their bikes are VERY valuable.

Is there a particular reason you are looking to buy a 30 year old bike?

do you know roughly what size bike you need?

Id recommend taking your thousand bucks to a real bike shop and talking to a salesman. You wont get the classic/vintage machine your looking for but you will get a good, modern, starter bike w/ full support of trained mechanics, plus an education.

Make your (n) +1 the classic steel racer once you know a little more about what you want.
