depends how bad the sprains are, i guess. the good news is you'll probably heal quicker than any couch potato, if that's any comfort.

fwiw, the advice i picked up from being the catcher's mom for six years is to alternate heat and cold for periods of about 15 minutes each, rather than just doing one or the other. that's what the fanatically serious pitchers who are aiming at scholarship do, and it seems to work. of course, you don't pitch with your rear end, so ymmv.
