From the perspective of a materials scientist and an engineer, I would be surprised if there was any damage to the pieces in question. That being said, from a cyclist's perspective, better safe than sorry. Plus, I'm sure that once you explain the scenario to your LBS, they wouldn't charge you for the inspection. Good catch, btw. Glad nothing went too wrong. I'd love to hear updates on the inspection, too. It would be helpful for future reference.
