I thought the OP rather scary, but I am used to the local RBA's being VERY experienced -- Raleigh Region RBA has done brevets since 1983 & Highpoint Region RBA has done too much to even guess at -- and they each know more tricks and have experienced more things than I can count.
My thought is this: Richard, contact Bob Riggs (Houston) or Dan Driscoll (Dallas) as each of those RBA's has lots of personal experience and experience with a wide range of abilities in other cyclists.
