This smacks of an often-seen aberration in our modern society: That you can solve a problem by just throwing more money at it.
Besides bicycling I shoot in NRA Service Rifle competition, shooting an AR15 rifle. Under the rules of the game we have to use the original style iron sights - no scopes. But by using proper technique and lots of practice we are able to hit our target out to a maximum of 600 yards. But if you go to the recreational range you will see a guy with a similar rifle that couldn't hit the broad side of a barn if he was standing inside of it. Invariably his response is that he must need a better scope.
There's an old saying: "It ain't the arrow, it's the indian."
How many of us on this forum will spend gobs of money on a more-expensive doodad for their bike just because it weighs 0.00039 grams less than the cheaper but just as servicable version - all because they are convinced that it will make us faster.
I'm convinced that the national sport in this country isn't baseball. It's spending money.
