I bought a pure fix normal 325$ bicycle online two years ago. I have needed to replace the tires/tubes a couple times, the rear chain ring once. I have a couple thousand miles on it, I'd say 5,000. I replaced the pedals with spd, and have even ridden it on half centuries in temperatures below freezing. I understand that it's obviously not a top end bike, but it's my first actual non-big box store bike, and I really like it. The only problem I've ever had with the wheels is a crooked spoke which was easily replaced, and overall I'd say a pure fix bicycle is worth the price. I know a lot of seasoned biker-veterans on here seem to throw up at the idea of a >400$ fixed gear bike, but I really like mine.
