Also IMO, combining weight training with running or swimming gets you in the best shape. Cycling eh... It's a lot of coasting, and very low impact etc. Not my choice for fitness since cyclists to me have very disproportionate strength and fitness. Strong legs, mostly slow twitch muscles, weak upper body, weak core, weak back and low bone density, compared to other athletes. Eh, that's my impression at least.
- Which is why after I do my charity ride, I'm going to do more running and weight training than cycling, cycling is enjoyable, but not the body type, proportions and fitness I want.
