In fairness I've done a 350km single ride recording using my Garmin 510 in June. That is certainly beyond a "quick short ride." It was actually 15 hours 40 min of ride time and 17 hours of GPS on-time. No maps, no turn-by-turn cues, no backlighting. But I did have ANT+ speed/cadence and HR on the entire ride. I even had ~6% on the battery when I got in that evening.

Instead of a new GPS device, I was more looking for advice on what types of charging units I can pack with me, whether I can record while charging, how long these devices take to re-charge while napping, etc.
