Not better but maybe more options. I have a steel bike and an alum/carbon fork and I ride them the same distances on the same roads. The alum is much stiffer so I notice a difference when I'm climbing and sprinting etc but in reality my avg might be 1/2 mph slower on the steel on the same rides. Just get the best bike you can afford. Components and wheels would be more important to me than frame material
