The Times are actually not SPD. SPD stands for Shimano Pedaling Dynamics. SPD and Time are actually two different clipless systems. Times tend to be the most popular because they have more float, and tend to shed mud better than SPD. It all comes down to personal preferance in the end. After trying Times for almost a year, I have to say I like SPD better. Anyho, this is all beside the point.
