It is a generalization. Although there are few people that take Bromptons for long rides so it's probably a good generalization to give people.

I always recommend test riding as many bikes as possible.
Few people in the US perhaps? That's not so in London or the UK. People regularly do well over 5km on their rides and commutes on Brommys here.
